Baby Grantham {St. George Utah Photographer}

This little guy wasn't very happy our first photo session, so I got the chance to do some more. This time he was SO good and just pretty much slept the whole time. I'm so glad that I got to try again because I love how these turned out! He has lots of hair and is just the cutest little guy! Newborn photography sessions are definitely the most challenging and take the most time and patience, but they are definitely worth it! If you could only see how much time Lexi and I sat there holding him still to settle into these positions. Then you see these pictures and it looks easy! It's not always easy, but it's so fun and I'm so glad that I have the opportunity to be a photographer in St. George! I wouldn't want to do anything else!

Can't decide which one I like better. Which one do you like?

I guess I never put on here how excited I am that I recently got a new camera!!! It's the Canon 5D Mark II. I also had to get a couple new lenses since my old ones weren't compatible with this new, full frame camera (for those of you who don't know what that means- it means that my old camera was a beginner camera and this one is a professional camera, which takes better, higher quality photos). It's been so fun playing around with it and learning new things.

I've also recently started a 365 photo project. To follow me on that go HERE. I will be putting a new picture (or two) on there every day. One of the above pictures of me was for my project, so you will see that same picture on my blog for today's project.

I am also in the process of setting up printing options for those of you who have a session with me and then would like to have some of the pictures printed by a professional printer. I just got some of my test prints today and they look AMAZING! I'm so excited to be offering more products, more on that coming soon!

The very first picture that comes up on my header is the same baby in these pictures. It's been about 6 months now and he's grown so much! This family is getting sealed to their little boy today, so they wanted some family pictures done to remember the occasion. This family was so fun to take picture of! Not many kids are as easy as these to photograph! Little Ava was so sweet and had so many smiles for me! Max has got the most amazing eyes, they are such a pale, soft green! And of course, little Isaac looked like such a little stud in his outfit and hat!

Beckie has to be one of my best clients! She's been back several times and each time I think her kids get even cuter! Marlee is such a delicate little girl! She's almost one (Feb 6th?), so Beckie brought some cupcakes and we let her go at it! She wasn't scared to get into it, and I loved that she was even sticking her toes in the frosting! Happy Birthday Marlee May! Maddux was LOVING looking at the fish and I especially love the smile on his face in the last picture.

Love these boys, I've seen their mom go through so much with them! She always amazes me with how strong of a person she is and how many trials she's endured with her children! Jace, one of the twins has had problems with fluid in his brain since before he was born, and everyone who knows them hopes that it will fix its' self and he won't ever have to have surgery for it. Please keep him in your prayers!

On the lighter side, this session I just had to laugh because Angie was pretty annoyed when she got to my house and realized that she had left all their outfits at home! The kids were so happy, but by the time they went back home and got back, they didn't have a whole lot of patience left! I think Angie was worried that we didn't get any good pictures of the boys together, but I think they turned out so cute! Can you believe their eyes!!! No photoshopping here, that's all natural!

I couldn't decide which of these I liked better.

{After posting these pictures I realized that the colors were all off, so I had to re-edit them and re-post them, so here's Tara's kids again!}

Here's the older siblings to the newborn I took pictures I took awhile back. This time around all she wanted to do was sleep, of course, even when her siblings were holding her. I don't know how Tara does it with 4 kids-3 and under! I am pretty much maxed out with my three! I remember when she was pregnant with her twins, they were born pretty close to my oldest, and then we were both pregnant again the same time and my twins and her little girl were born only a few days apart, so our first three are all the same ages, but I can't imagine having one more, less than 18 months later!

This couple was so cute! I was so excited when Ashley called me to do their wedding pictures! We had planned this date a few weeks back and with all the rain I was afraid it wasn't going to let up for the day to let us get pictures, but it did! When we got to our location it was super foggy and once we were almost there we see SNOW EVERYWHERE! I was excited, but wasn't sure if they were going to be what we were planning, but it turned out even better than I had planned! It was such a pretty morning and the snow made it fun! To make it even better I had the cutest couple to take pictures of! These two were so awesome! Thanks guys!

When I hire a professional photographer, am I only paying for their time taking pictures?

No!!! For every one hour spent taking pictures I usually take another 3-6 hours editing. here's a look at what I spend the majority of my time doing with your pictures:

Here's the original picture, straight out of camera:

Here's after editing the eyes to add more drama, the colors and lighting and smoothing the skin:

Here's taking that same picture and applying my custom sepia:

Here's an example of what I could do with the same original and edit it with a program like picasa:

Picasa's sepia edit.

See the difference? The auto color in Picasa made the color one have way too much green, and you can't smooth the skin without smoothing everything, which would take sharp eyes and make them blurry. The sepia one has no contrast and looks really blah! I'm not saying there's not a place for programs like Picasa, because they can be great for editing your own pictures quickly, but they are definitely limited and you should expect much better if you hire someone to do your pictures. These are just an example of some of the touch-ups I do on pictures. This picture wasn't terrible to start with, but if she had scratches or dirt of something on her face- I could have easily taken those out, which is another thing I would do when editing pictures.

Love this family! Danielle was one of my best friends in high school, so it was fun to take these pictures and see her while she was in town. I loved all the different colors everyone was wearing! Usually I try to find something colorful for a background, but this time I didn't need any more color because they wore such fun colors!

I will have a few different days available where I will do mini sessions. These will be studio sessions with all my props, backgrounds, and lights.

This family was so much fun to take pictures of! Aren't these the cutest little boys!?

I had to include this picture because I thought it was so funny. We didn't want the kids running around while I took a few of the parents, so she had put her purse down and set the younger boy in it and gave him some treats to keep him there! I loved it! Haha! Oh, and I also think it's a great idea to bring treats to bribe your kids! They brought marshmallows, I think I might have to get a bag for myself and keep with my camera because kids will sit still and be good for them!

This picture made me laugh. I'm not sure what he's doing, but it looks like a little dance! I love his expression!

Oh, and P.S. I have your ornament done, I just need to bring it over. I've been procrastinating because I really want to get a picture of it on a tree, and I haven't put mine up yet! Pictures of that to come!

Sadies Dance

Pine View had their Sadies dance on Halloween. I was able to go with this group up to Red Cliffs and watch them repel and take pictures of them. I think they turned out really cute! These guys were even nice enough to offer to let me repel too... I didn't, but Thanks! I was being chicken that day! I've been before, but I only went expecting to take pictures, so that's all I did! Some days I really feel like I'm getting old, especially on days like these when I think, "wow, it's been 10 years since I was that age..."

Earlier this month we tried getting some more family pictures. We got a couple that I liked, but Jack and Aniston weren't feeling the best, so they didn't look like their happy selves in most of the pictures. I may have to bug my husband to try again before the year is over... of course we will have family in town for the holidays, so we'll do some for sure then... haha, you know how much guys love doing family pictures!

...and of course, the kids just LOVE to get their pictures taken too! Haha! This was the end of the shoot though, and they were getting sick of it!

I LOVE this family picture (although I'm a little bummed that Isaac wasn't looking at the camera! It's so hard to get everyone smiling in every picture!)! I couldn't decide which color I liked best, so I am adding both here. The first one is pretty much the original picture, with a few touch ups, and the second has an aged color added.

I had some free time (from the kids) so I played around with my lights and got a few pictures of myself that I liked! It's always hard to take pictures of yourself and totally like them, so I understand when moms don't want to be in pictures with their kids. I guess it's just easier to judge yourself than everyone else, but I can say I am pretty happy with how these turned out! I got to do these two little boys a few months ago and I was so excited to do their 1 year birthday pictures! It's so much fun to see them make a mess out of cupcakes! Nathan was even sweet enough to share his with his mom! He is such a cutie!

I think Jack is one of the easiest 1 year olds to photograph, he's always so quiet and sweet and just smiles when you want him to!

I love his serious face, don't you just want to eat those cheeks!? And he has the cutest lips in this picture!!!

This is my neighbor's little girl. She's not really one, I just had to try it out for pictures. I made the hats for my twin's birthday party, I think they turned out pretty cute... now, how do I get Jack to keep his on?!

I just LOVE this family! Of course it helps that they are my neighbors! :) I have taken a bunch of pictures for them, but really, I think I enjoy it more than anyone! These kids are so dang cute and so photogenic... they must get it from their parents!

Aren't they just the cutest couple? No wonder they have such cute little kids!

I just LOVE this picture (below). Isn't she sooo cute!? Oh, and funny story, Jocelyn said that when she went to get some of these pictures printed the lady doing the pictures was like, did you know that in one of the pictures everyone's heads are cut off except your baby's? Um ya, that's how it was taken!

These girls were so cute! The youngest didn't really want to get pictures though!

Chloe plays soccer so we got some of her with her soccer ball.

The perfume bottle kept her happy for a few minutes. It was funny though because she would try sticking the whole thing up her nose to smell it!

I was kinda nervous to do these graduation pictures but I am SO excited with how they turned out! I don't think John could have done any better! He did so good and was such a natural. I ended up liking almost every picture we took, it was so hard to choose which ones to put on here!

I was so excited to take pictures of this cute little guy! This was the first time I got to see my friend's little boy, and what a cutie he is! He has such bright eyes and he is really starting to smile a lot!

There were a few funny pictures of him. Like when we were taking the pictures of him on the surf board he started peeing and made a puddle on the board!

It looks like he sucks his thumb, but I don't think he does, just in this picture! Cute!

I also got to take pics for another neighbor today. Her little girl is so cute with tons of long, dark hair! I felt so bad for her though because she had such a tummy ache, so we didn't get to take as many pictures as we wanted. We're hoping that tomorrow we will be able to get some more!

She finally fell asleep for a little while at the end. Poor girl!
